Preparing For Your Walk In The Woods

Everything To Know Before You Set Out

Visitor Guide ·

Walk Well,
Walk Slowly

Maple Blend Path

Maple Blend Path is easy to enjoy without special equipment, though a little preparation goes a long way. Below you'll find the essentials — when to come, what to bring, how to move through the forest respectfully, and when the trails are open.

Best Time To Visit ·

When The Forest
Turns To Color

Peak momiji (autumn color) season generally runs from mid-November through early December, when the canopy turns deep red, orange, and gold. This is the busiest and most photographed time of year — arriving early in the morning or on a weekday can mean a quieter walk.

Spring — fresh green leaves and occasional blossoms along the lower trail, cool and quiet.
Summer — deep shade under a full canopy, with the sound of the stream and cicadas.
Winter — bare branches, crisp air, and on rare occasions a light dusting of snow over the stone paths.

What To Bring ·

Pack Light,
Pack Right

  • Comfortable walking shoes with good grip — stone paving and tree roots can be uneven or slippery, especially after rain.
  • Layered clothing, since temperatures under the canopy can feel several degrees cooler than in the open.
  • Water, particularly if you plan to walk both trails or linger in the gardens.
  • A camera — the light through the maple leaves is one of the main reasons people visit.

Trail Etiquette ·

Leave The Forest
As You Found It

A few simple courtesies help keep the forest peaceful for wildlife and for other visitors.

  • Stay on the marked paths — stepping off the trail can damage moss and tree roots that take many years to recover.
  • Keep your voice low and phones on silent; the quiet is part of what draws wildlife close to the paths.
  • Take any rubbish home with you — there are no bins along the trails.
  • Please don't pick leaves or flowers, and treat shrine and garden areas with the same quiet respect you'd show indoors.

Opening Hours & Notes ·

Open To The
Rhythm Of The Day

Trails are open from sunrise to sunset year-round, so timing your visit around daylight hours is the simplest way to plan. Some garden areas may close briefly for seasonal maintenance, particularly just before the momiji season begins — please check signage at the trailhead if you're planning around a specific garden.
